Good for the Soul Lioness/ Island***

Let's get this out of the way right now, shall we? Dionne Bromfield is Amy Winehouse's goddaughter and was the first signing to Winehouse's own label, Lioness. Nepotism and foreknowledge aside, you'd have to put money on 15-year-old Bromfield going somewhere good relatively quickly. If her debut album, 2009's Introducing Dionne Bromfield, was typical X Factorteen fodder (mediocre cover versions of Ain't No Mountain High Enoughand I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus, etc), then the follow-up of sparky Motown-minted material will do the best it can to help the teenager win over her detractors. It helps too, of course, to have songwriters of the calibre of Eg White on your side (the sassy Oh Yeah), but overall the feeling here is of a well-worn formula looking shiny instead of grubby.
