Jason Byrne, master messer, had lots of support in an audience familiar with his clowning and ad hoc madness. Though sometimes things fell apart slightly, he played the audience like a fiddle, chatting, making his daft verbal connections, all jerkyhipped gestures and funny faces. He didn't do much with his usual props and silly wigs, which sat tantalisingly on a table behind - probably because things went so well with the audience.
Bob Reilly as support/MC was comfortable with the crowd and did an entertaining set.
PJ Gallagher, more usually Jason Byrne's good-natured stooge, did a short stand-up set with more confidence than good material; it might have been wiser to try his first solo in a smaller setting.
