THE CURRAGHMORE tables, a pair of Irish George II giltwood pier tables, made sterling Pounds 200,000 at a Christies sale in London last week.tables, supported on golden oak trees, were most likely commissioned by Marcus Beresford, the first Earl of Tyrone, for his home at Curraghmore, Co Waterford, around 1750.
Other Irish pieces sold by Christies included a George II giltwood side table, which fetched Pounds 100,000. A George II walnut concertina-action card table more than doubled its top estimate to make Pounds 72,000 under the hammer. Also sold was an Irish William IV mahogany dining table, with three pedestal sections, which fetched Pounds 50,000.
