This has been an absolutely brilliant year for fascinating memoirs, and I am joyfully recommending three that everyone should read!

Both beautiful and moving, Small: On Motherhoods by Claire Lynch, is that extraordinary thing – a book you cannot bear to finish because you will be lost without its grace, love and humour.

Also telling a story of family and self, Sophie White's Corpsing made me laugh, cry and gasp out loud in solidarity and admiration.

Finally, Unsettled by Rosaleen McDonagh will make you think and feel, and wonder at her poetic prose. If you do nothing else this holiday season, gift yourself one of these books.
