Replica Dylan Thomas shed to travel to Ireland for festival

A replica of the writing shed used by poet and writer Dylan Thomas will travel across the Irish Sea to Dún Laoghaire this month as part of the Mountains to Sea dlr literary festival.

The shed, which includes curled pictures on the walls, boiled sweets on the desk and the poet's jacket still hanging on the back of his chair, is on tour as part of Dylan Thomas 100, a year-long festival commemorating the centenary of the Welsh writer's birth.

The original shed sits above the Boathouse in the seaside town of Laugharne where Thomas lived with his wife Caitlin whose family came from Co Clare.

Hannah Ellis, Thomas’ granddaughter, said she was pleased to see her grandfather’s work celebrated in Ireland given her family’s connection with the country, adding that “Ireland shares a language as well as a strong poetic tradition with Wales”.

The shed replica will travel to Ireland on board the Stena Europe from Fishguard to take part in the festival from 12-14th September.

Eoin Colfer and Aneirin Karadog, Children’s Laureates from Ireland and Wales, will join poets Menna Elfyn, Nessa O’Mahoney and Nerys Williams at the Dún Laoghaire literary festival to discuss Dylan Thomas, his poetry and his legacy.
