Poem of the Week: The Sun

A new work by Adam Wyeth in memory of Judith Mok

Novelist and poet Judith Mok.
Novelist and poet Judith Mok.
In memoriam Judith Mok

The winter sun catches my eye,
angling between the terrace and the willow.
You are worlds away in another season,
some might say another dimension now.

But who are we to make sense
of things we cannot see or know,
beyond the felt moment
of immediate experience.

One to one and each to each,
the lowest sun has the farthest reach.
It’s over a hundred million miles away in space,
and it’s right here, touching my face.

Adam Wyeth’s latest collection, about:blank, was adapted into an audio-immersive production at Dublin Theatre Festival 2021. In April 2024, his collaborative project there will be no silence with composer David Downes premiered at The National Concert Hall.
