As readers of Fintan O'Toole's fine 1997 biography A Traitor's Kiss will already know, Richard Brinsley Sheridan led an extraordinary life.
This portrait of the playwright and politician is being offered for sale by Drum's of Malahide, Co Dublin, as one of a number of lots coming from the same house where it has hung for the past century.
An oil on canvas, the painting does not appear to carry a signature and carries an estimate of £3,000£5,000.
Elsewhere in the same auction, a mahogany arched, two-door Victorian cabinet bookcase is expected to make £1,500£2,000, as is both an English walnut centre table and a 57-piece Victorian Ironstone dinner service with chinoiserie pattern of red and grey on a white background.
A mid-Victorian, cabriole-legged and deep-buttoned chaise longue carries a presale estimate of £800£1,200, while a William IV rosewood games table and a stringinlaid fold-over card table are expected to go for £600£1,000 each.
Finally, various sofas from the same property should sell for between £400 and £600.
Taking place in Drum's rooms on New Street, the auction begins on Thursday at 7 p.m.
