Man (30s) charged in relation to seizure of drugs worth €185,000 in Cork

A man (30s) arrested in connection with the seizure of ecstasy and cocaine with an estimated value of €185,000 in Co Cork on Saturday has been charged.

He is expected to appear before a special sitting of Mallow District Court on Monday at 11.30am. A woman in her 30s who was also arrested has been released without charge. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí say they carried out a search at a premises in Douglas, Cork at 4pm on Saturday as part of Operation Tara. They discovered and seized 15,000 ecstasy tablets, with an estimated street value of €150,000 and 0.5kg of cocaine, which they say is worth €35,000.

The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis. Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure was made under Operation Tara, an enhanced anti-drugs strategy, launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021.

The focus of the operation is to “disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks” at international, national and local level.
