Gardaí have appealed to the public for assistance as they prepare a file for the coroner’s court following the discovery of a man’s body in north Co Cork.
Officers are trying to establish when the 53-year-old Eastern European man was last seen alive. He caught a train from Cork city to Banteer near Kanturk on Friday, June 13th.
Gardaí believe the man left the Iarnród Éireann station in Banteer at 3pm and was walking from there via Ballymaquirke Cross to Kanturk, where he had been living for some years.
The man failed to return home that night and was reported missing by friends. Gardaí put out an appeal locally for any information about him in the hope that someone had seen him.

Officers carried out searches along the man’s likely route from Banteer to Kanturk and his body was found in a ditch between Ballymaquirke and Kanturk last Saturday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem, which ruled out the possibility of foul play being a factor in the man’s death.
Gardaí are compiling a file on the man’s death for an inquest at Cork County Coroner’s Court, and have appealed to the public to try to establish when he was last seen alive.
They have appealed for road users who travelled between Ballymaquirke Cross and Kanturk between 3pm and 9pm on Friday June 13th and saw anyone on the road to contact them.
They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who drove the road during those times and has dashcam footage and want them to contact them at Kanturk Garda station on 029 20680.
