A man has been arrested after a woman was fatally injured in Gorey, Co Wexford early on Thursday.
The woman has been named locally as Paula Lawlor (32).
Gardaí and the emergency services were called to an incident at a residence in Baile Eoghain shortly after 3am. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested and is being held at a garda station in the eastern region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

It is understood the suspect was known to her.
The scene has been preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist and coroner notified. A postmortem is expected to be arranged.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry and an incident room has been established at Gorey Garda station. A family liaison officer has also been assigned to support the family.
Gardaí are appealing to witnesses to come forward. They are also seeking dashcam footage from motorists who were in the vicinity of Baile Eoghain at the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gorey Garda station on 094 30690 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
“Here we are six days out before Christmas under a cloud across a whole town, people are devastated. There’s a huge air of sadness and everybody’s prayers are with the family,” said local Fine Gael TD Brian Brennan.
Fianna Fáil councillor Joe O’Sullivan said: “People are shocked and very saddened that a young person in their 30s would lose their life under such circumstances.”
