Three men hospitalised after assault in Slane, Co Meath

It is believed two of the men suffered stab wounds in the incident

Three men have been taken to hospital following an assault in Slane, Co Meath on Saturday night.

It is believed two men suffered stab or slash wounds during the incident at the Slane Castle site.

One Garda source said it appeared an altercation had broken out among workers involved in clearing the site following the Harry Styles concert the previous week.

Two of the men were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and one was brought to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown with non-life threatening injuries

In a statement gardaí confirmed that they “attended an assault involving three men on the grounds of a premises in Slane, Co Meath” at approximately 11pm on Saturday night.

“All three males were removed to hospital, two men to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda and one man to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown with non-life threatening injuries,” the statement said.

Investigations are ongoing, it added.

Local Fine Gael councillor Paddy Meade said the community was in “shock” at hearing about the incident on Sunday morning.

“Slane is such a peaceful village where even concerts pass off without events, so this is such a shock to the area,” he said.
