The Gate Theatre is giving three lucky Irish Times subscribers the chance to win two tickets to Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa at 3Olympia Theatre on Monday, July 14th, 2025.

The Gate Theatre in association with 3Olympia is proud to present its acclaimed production of Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa at 3Olympia this summer, now running until Saturday, July 26th, 2025.

Following a sold out run last year, the Gate Theatre has brought Dancing at Lughnasa across the city to the 3Olympia Theatre stage this summer to meet the phenomenal demand.

This is the first time in 35 years, since Joe Dowling’s beloved production of Sean O’Casey’s Juno and the Paycock in 1990, that a Gate show has been presented on the iconic 3Olympia stage. The Gate’s connection to 3Olympia Theatre stretches back to 1952 when Gate Theatre co-founders Micheál MacLiammóir and Hilton Edwards played opposite each other in Edwards’s production of Hamlet.

Brian Friel’s moving and heartwarming masterpiece about family, home and belonging continues to resonate with this critically acclaimed production, directed by Caroline Byrne and starring Lauren Farrell as Rose, Peter Gowen as Father Jack, Nicky Harley as Agnes, Pauline Hutton as Kate, Terence Keeley as Michael, Molly Logan as Maggie, Éilish McLaughlin as Chris and Jack Meade as Gerry.

In the warmth of the Donegal harvest of 1936, the five Mundy sisters, Kate, Maggie, Rose, Agnes and Chris, love, survive, fight, and dance. This unforgettable summer brings the possibility of joy and love to these extraordinary, ordinary women.
