Win afternoon tea for you and three friends at The Shelbourne.

Subs: The Shelbourne

The Irish Times has teamed up with The Shelbourne to give one lucky Irish Times subscriber the chance to win Afternoon Tea for four people.

The Shelbourne has been welcoming guests through her doors for over 200 years this year—an extraordinary landmark achievement for this most famous address on the Green.

Home to one of the most pleasurable of rituals at Dublin’s favourite five-star hotel—afternoon tea—the fresh, pretty shades of golden yellow, pale green, buttercream, and ivory of the Lord Mayor’s Lounge are echoed in the delicate tones on the plate, with a new Classic Afternoon Tea that has all the essential elements of a traditional afternoon tea, with a selection of impeccably dainty sandwiches including such as Oak Smoked Salmon with Lakeshore mustard and treacle bread and Roast Chicken and Chive Mayonnaise on wholemeal bread.

Accompanying these are homemade buttermilk scones, both plain and golden raisin, served with clotted cream and jams, and the banana mousse cake with crumble, caramelised banana, and crème Chantilly. The Shelbourne showcases the art of the pâtissier with exceptional and exquisite pastries created by Executive Chef Garry Hughes and his team. Revisiting the classics and adding a little something special, the menu includes a classic éclair with rich caramel diplomat cream and crunchy praline. Citrus Macaroon features lemon curd crème pâtissière on a soft macaroon and citrus pâte de fruit. Other indulgences include a Pistachio Slice layered with raspberry jam and finished with silky pistachio cream, and the Chocolate Cake, a rich cocoa delight.

Classic Afternoon Tea at The Shelbourne is perfect for a special afternoon enjoying the lovely things in life, an experience designed to be shared and savoured. The Shelbourne have some Valentine’s Day Afternoon Tea seatings available at 5pm and 7pm, when each guest will be treated to a glass of Champagne on arrival and a beautiful rose.
