THE 17 year old Co Wexford girl, Sylvie Redmond, who died, at the weekend before a suitable heart and lungs donor could be, found, is to be buried in Gorey, Co Wexford tomorrow.
She died on New Year's Eve in Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin. Her parents, Margaret and Michael, were with her when she died.
Ms Redmond had cystic fibrosis and was admitted to hospital in early December. Before that, she had been in and out of Our, Lady's Hospital for years.
The Make A Wish Foundation arranged for Ms Redmond to appear on stage with the Cranberiries rock group in Phoenix, Arizona, last August. Her family had appealed for a suitable donor
Ms Redmond needed a lung, transplant but a heart/lung transplant offered a better chance.
Mr David Hall, of the Make A Wish Foundation, said yesterday that Ms Redmond had been very, very sick. Unlike previous times, she was not getting better." When Ms Redmond returned from the US in August, she became a foundation volunteer and spoke at fund raising events. Mr Hall said she would still have wanted donors so that other patients might be able to have transplants.
The removal from her home in Gorey will take place tonight to St Mary's Church, Ballygarrett, at 7 p.m. She will be interred after 11.30 a.m. Mass tomorrow.
