AMSTRAD is to shed 70 jobs following the final restructuring of its consumer electronics business in a move that is believed to smooth the way for a £234 million sterling takeover of the group by hand held computer company, Psion. It said the jobs, involving its head office in Brentwood and a warehouse site in Shoeburyness, both in Essex, would go before Christmas. The consumer electronics business is being transferred to Betacom.
