Ninety workers are to be laid off at the USowned Transtec Automotive car components plant at Campsie on the outskirts of Derry. The company, which has a workforce of 400, began its Derry operations two years ago.

The announcement of the layoffs came 12 hours after management representatives told union officials at their annual pay review meeting that no redundancies were planned.
