Computer Associates International has taken a 10 per cent equity stake in Dublin-based firm, Trinity Technology.

The stake, which is estimated to be worth £3 million (€3.8 million), is part of a new long-term, strategic alliance between Trinity and Computer Associates.

As part of the alliance Trinity will standardise its services on Computer Associates' Jasmine ii and Unicentre TNG systems e-business architecture.

Trinity, which employs 50 people in Dublin, is reinventing itself as a managed service provider rather than a product supplier.

Conduit, the Dublin-based provider of directory assistance services, is to create up to 450 jobs at a new call centre in Wales which will operate from January 2001.

Conduit may expand this facility by leasing space in the building. The company expects to employ 1,400 people in Cardiff within 18-months.

Conduit, which has formed a subsidiary in the UK called 118 Limited in partnership with Sonera Oyj of Finland, is aiming to provide directory services in Britain.

The company got a boost yesterday with the start of a consultation process initiated by UK telecoms regulator OFTEL to bring competition to directory services in the UK.
