Stobart Air to launch new Dublin to London Southend route

Irish airline Stobart Air said on Tuesday that it will operate a new Dublin to London Southend route under the Flybe brand.

The service to Southend airport, which is 40 miles outside London, will feature up to three flights a day, seven days a week, and will commence on October 29th.

Fares will start at €29.99 one way, including taxes and charges.

Travellers can get to the heart of London from the airport in about 45-minutes, with up to six trains per hour to and from Liverpool Street.

The new route is part Stobart Air’s three-year growth strategy, which includes a € 25 million investment, 60 new jobs and the addition of two new Embraer E195s jet aircraft to its fleet.These new jets will operate the new routes from London Southend airport.

Graeme Buchanan, chief executive at Stobart Air, said the addition of London Southend to the route network represented "a sound strategic move for Stobart Air as we invest in our three-year growth strategy. We are on track to carry two million passengers in 2017, a 50 per cent increase in passenger numbers over the past five years."

Once the new route becomes operational, Stobart Air will operate nine Flybe routes as part of its 2017 winter schedule from London Southend.

Stobart Air currently operates up to 860 flights weekly across 43 routes throughout 11 European countries from bases in Ireland and the UK under the Aer Lingus Regional and Flybe brand. The airline operates a fleet of 17 aircraft with routes across Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Kerry and Donegal in Ireland.
