Cawley shoots the breeze with Anna.aero

Anna.aero, the online aviation magazine, is a magnificently zany publication. With a staff as mad as hornets, it studiously covers route changes and related aviation news: wonkish stuff, with a bonkers twist.

This week, it published what it claimed is the "last-ever" interview with Michael Cawley, the outgoing deputy chief executive of Ryanair who retires in March. The interview appears to have been conducted between Cawley and Anna.aero's Paul Hogan, with the two of them wearing Santa hats.

Ryanair's intentions
Hogan quizzed him about Ryanair's intentions for Moscow. "So have you ever been there?" asked Hogan.

"Nyet [Russian for no], although I remember singing 'Moscow girls make me sing and shout' – that was ages ago," replied Cawley.

Hogan: “How do you like the new nicer Ryanair? It’s not very macho is it?”

“No it’s not. That’s why I’m leaving!” replied Cawley, presumably with his tongue firmly in cheek.

Then Anna.aero reporter Amy Hanna sits up onto a pool table accompanied by Hogan on guitar, and rattles off a curiously catchy ditty about Ryanair’s new cuddly image. It’s on YouTube, but here’s a taste: “The one bag rule has gone/So buy duty free once more/Bring an enormous Toblerone/If you can get it through the door...”
