Web Log: Explore the world with GeoGuessr

Pokemon Go is the mobile game du jour; augmented reality has made it almost irresistible to catch 'em all even if it means smacking into folks on the street, taking frequent bathroom breaks (just in case there's more lurking about) and setting your alarm for a spot of night hunting (gotta get the nocturnal types). But if Pokemon isn't your thing then why not try out GeoGuessr, a geographic discovery game using Google Streetview.

GeoGuessr plops you in the middle of a random location: if you’re lucky there’s a street sign up ahead or you could be dropped on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere.

Using visual clues from your environment, the objective is to place a marker on the map, making a best guess as to where you are. Points are given based on how many kilometres you are from the actual location.

It’s not as addictive as Pokemon Go but GeoGuessr will delight geography and travel buffs.
