Irish telecoms group Viatel has made its third acquisition in just nine months as consolidation in the sector continues apace.
The company had completed a deal to acquire Cork-based data and voice service provider Nova Telecom for an undisclosed sum. The move follows deals to buy Ripplecom and Irish Telecom late last year.
The Viatel group, which also includes Digiweb, provides connectivity, cloud and security solutions to businesses and has its own data centre facility in Blanchardstown, Dublin.
The company, which employs more than 180 people, counts the likes of Centric Health, CPL, Telus (formerly Voxpro) and Kingston International among its clients.

Nova Telecom, founded in 2004, provides business connectivity, voice and data services along with residential broadband services. Its customers include Thermo Fisher Scientific, Irish Water, Eventbrite, Biopharma Engineering and PM Group Global.
Following completion of the deal, the newly expanded Viatel Group now serves more than 4,200 businesses and 30,000 residential customers under the Digiweb brand.
Viatel chief executive Paul Rellis, who previously led Microsoft Ireland, said Nova was a great fit for the fast-expanding company.
“We have a great team and are experiencing a period of very strong growth right across our business,” he said.
