Version 1 sets up camp in Newcastle Upon Tyne with 200 new jobs

Irish IT services company Version 1 is to add 200 new jobs in Newcastle Upon Tyne as it establishes a base in the region.

The move is being supported by Invest Newcastle, which helped the company through the process of applying for a grant of £1 million (€1.2 million) from the North of Tyne Combined Authority’s Inward Investment Fund.

The first phase of recruitment includes mid to senior level people, with the company seeking Java developers, performance testers, senior front-end engineers and recruitment marketing specialists. The company will also be focusing on upskilling students nearing graduation.

"Newcastle has a flourishing tech scene and one of the fastest-growing tech clusters in the UK – and Version 1 is one of the fastest-growing employers in Europe, " said Louise Lahiff, director of strategy, planning and people at Version 1.

Founded in 1996 by Justin Keatinge and John Mullen, Version 1 has offices in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Edinburgh, Manchester and London. Partners include Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle. It has seen significant growth in recent years, adding to its customer base in the UK market.

Sam Cassidy, Inward Investment Manager with Invest Newcastle, said the talks had been ongoing since September of last year. "Their city centre base will benefit from our growing ecosystem and access to our networks including universities, colleges and national centres for excellence. We're working with them as they grow their base here."
