US company Revel Systems to create 89 jobs in Belfast

San Francisco headquartered software company to establish a new European sales and support centre

A San Francisco headquartered software company plans to establish a new European sales and support centre in Northern Ireland and create 89 jobs, the North’s Enterprise Minister announced today in Belfast.

Revel Systems is the developer of a cloud based iPad Point of Sale System (POS) that allows retailers to use iPads to do the same job as traditional cash registers.

Thousands of hospitality and retail establishments from small shops to multinational chains currently use the system.

The American company recently secured a $100 million investment to expand its operation internationally and it plans to use its new Belfast location to fulfil that ambition.

Chris Ciabarra, one of the founders and chief technology officer of Revel Systems, said: "Our system empowers merchants, helping them to thrive and grow, and we are excited about the market opportunity in Europe. This new centre will facilitate our entry into the UK and European markets, which is part of our growth strategy."

Arlene Foster, the North's Enterprise Minister, said the company's decision to locate in Belfast will not only help create a centre of POS expertise but also create employment opportunities in sales, technical support and logistics roles.

The Minister said: “I am delighted that Revel System’s have decided to open their European headquarters here in Belfast. Their decision to establish this centre in Northern Ireland is based on the many advantages that this region has to offer international companies.

“High speed, cost-effective connectivity, easy access to the Great Britain and European markets, a committed and skilled workforce and the comprehensive support offered by government have attracted a succession of global firms to these shores in the past year, creating thousands of jobs.”

Invest NI and the North’s Department for Employment and Learning has offered Revel Systems a financial package totalling £690,000 to support the new investment project.

Mr Ciabarra said he is confident that the company will find the workforce they need to grow their business.

“Revel’s mission is to support entrepreneurs and give businesses the tools they need to succeed. We are excited to help European merchants take their businesses to the next level.

“We are looking for dynamic employees with real entrepreneurial spirit that can continually look for new creative solutions to meet customer needs,” he said.
