Sony teases new details on upcoming PS5 virtual reality headset

If you've been waiting patiently for Sony to unveil the next generation of its virtual reality headset, you'll be pleased to know that some details were revealed at CES.

The Las Vegas tech conference heard that the new PlayStation VR2 will be exclusively for the PS5, and will work with the new PlayStation VR2 Sense controller. Sony is promising a lot; apparently the new controller will take VR gaming to a "whole new level" offering a more immersive experience.

The company hasn’t shown up what it looks like just yet, but some of the specs sound impressive. The headset will offer a 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view, with an OLED display and a resolution of 2000×2040 per eye. Frame rates will be 90/120 Hz, which is a technical way of saying it all the action will look smooth.

Integrated cameras embedded in the VR headset will track your movements, reflecting it in-game without the need for an external camera. Plus you get more advanced physical feedback, from headset feedback via a single built-in motor with vibrations that will mimic a character’s heightened pulse, or the feeling of objects passing close to your head. Then there is 3D Audio, which provides more immersive sound, and eye tracking that detects the motion of your eyes so you can interact more intuitively with the game.
