Niklas Zennstrom, the co-founder of the internet calling service Skype which is now part of Microsoft, will be the closing speaker at the Dublin Web Summit in the RDS this afternoon.
Over 1,200 entrepreneurs, technologists, investors and advisors are attending the two day web conference which sold out two weeks ago.
Speaking at the Summit this morning Eric Ly, one of the co-founders of the business networking site LinkedIn, suggested that a recession is a good time to start a company.
“In 2002 in Silicon Valley a lot of entrepreneurs had sad faces and the venture capitalists were playing a lot of golf,” said Ly, in reference to the fall out of the dot com boom.
He joined with Reid Hoffman to start LinkedIn that year and the company is now worth over $8 billion.
The Summit has attracted speakers from some of the world’s biggest technology companies including Facebook, Twitter, Google and Microsoft as well as high potential start-ups from Europe and the US.
In parallel with the Dublin Web Summit the invite only F.ounders event is taking place attended by around 150 technology company founders from around the world.
