Online electronics marketplace Refurbed has expanded its offering in Ireland, adding refurbished games consoles to its product line as part of its continued expansion.

The company, which is aiming to build an Amazon-style retail offering for refurbished products, has added a range of modern and classic consoles, including the PlayStation 4 and the Game Boy Colour.

The refurbished consoles come with a 12-month warranty, going through a 40-step process to ensure they are returned to factory condition before they are sold.

According to Refurbed's Irish marketing manager, Padraig Power, some of the more popular consoles are the Game Boys and the more classic consoles that are a bit harder to get hold of, but the demand for consoles in general has been growing.

Price remains the biggest driver for refurbished technology, Mr Power said, but the environmental concerns are also pushing people towards refurbished electronics. Word of mouth is also playing a large role in spreading its popularity.

“We’re consistently seeing more and more customers and new customers coming to the platform. [The number of ] people who are buying and who are repeat customers is increasing every single month,” he said.

The company is planning to add further product lines to the site in the future.

Founded in 2017 by Peter Windischhofer, Kilian Kaminski and Jürgen Riedl, Refurbed launched in Ireland in March 2021, following a $17 million (€14.3 million) Series A raise in 2020, and aimed to tap into a growing interest in Ireland in more environmentally conscious, affordable technology.
