The company said yesterday that it is launching a recruitment campaign across its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) divisions, which are headquartered in Ireland.

The company did not say how many of the 1,700 new jobs would be based in Ireland, although it will lead to an increased headcount here.

Oracle employs over 1,000 people in Ireland, and is recruiting across all divisions based here.

It is understood that it is seeking to hire 75 staff here, more or less immediately.

Oracle is the world’s biggest developer and supplier of business software, and it also manufactures hardware, as a result of its purchase of Sun Microsystems a number of years ago.

The group said yesterday that its need for new staff in the EMEA regions was a result of growth across all lines of business.

John Caulfield, solutions director at its Irish base said that it reflects the demand for its hardware and software.

The 1,700 new jobs will include graduate positions, sales and pre-sales consultants.

In June, the Nasdaq-listed company published accounts for the 12 months ended May 31st showing that sales were close to $36 billion, a 33 per cent increase on the previous year.

Operating profits increased at a similar rate to $12 billion while net profits came in at $8.5 billion, almost 40 per cent ahead of the previous year.
