More than 300,000 expected to attend gaming conferences

Candy Crush Saga maker King Digital Entertainment to report Q2 earnings

Games company King Digital Entertainment is due to report second earnings today. The maker of Candy Crush Saga and Farm Heroes Saga last reported in May, and results were below analyst expectations. The company posted earnings per share of $0.41 for the quarter, missing the analysts' consensus estimate of $0.57 by $0.16.

King’s revenue for that quarter, at $606.70 million, was up 194.7 per cent compared to the same quarter last year.

The interactive game company went public in March of this year.

On the subject of games, Europe’s largest gaming conference is taking place in Cologne this week.

Steve Ewart, field application engineer and Irish-founded Havok's physics team lead, will be giving a talk at Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC Europe). The talk will be titled: The Past, Present and Future of Havok Physics and the Influence of 3D Game Development.

Rovio vice president of games Miika Tams and Chimera Entertainment managing director Christian Kluckner are also among the speakers.

GDC Europe takes place ahead of the massive Gamescom event, the world’s largest computer games trade show.

From August 14th to 17th, numerous new game products and hardware innovations will be showcased at the Cologne trade fair.

The latest computer and console games will be on display and visitors can test out the games even before their release.

The retro gaming special show will be bigger and more varied than ever before. Clubs, retro projects and private collectors will be showcasing the history of computer gaming on an area of around 1,000 square metres.

More than 340,000 visitors attended the 2013 Gamescom event, which featured 635 exhibitors from 40 countries. More than 6,000 journalists from 61 countries also attended.
