Ministers share the limelight at jobs announcement

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore (Labour) must have been jealous of all the good news employment stories featuring Fine Gael's Richard Bruton, the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation.

Bruton may as well ditch the enterprise/innovation part of his moniker and just be the plain old Minister for Jobs. While his ministerial colleagues, such as health’s James Reilly or education’s Ruairí Quinn, tiptoe their way through various landmines, Bruton gets to swan about the place announcing new jobs here, there and everywhere. Nice work, if you can get it.

So when Indeed. com, an online recruitment site, announced a host of new jobs at the official opening of its new Dublin base on Monday, Bruton found himself sharing the limelight with the Labour leader. It was all a very jolly affair. Indeed has overtaken Monster as the most visited jobs site on the web, with about 100 million visitors a month.

It started off in Dublin early last year with just three staff “and an olive tree” and now employs 100 staff in Silicon Docks, with another 100 on the way.

Both Ministers received equal billing at the announcement and even got to pose for a goofy job-creating T-shirt shot.

David Rudick, Indeed's South African-born vice-president, also managed to pronounce Tánaiste correctly. Gilmore, new to this happy-clappy job announcements stuff, almost burst with pride.

Meanwhile, as a reminder of the bad old days, the Nama data room for the Platinum Portfolio, which includes Seán Dunne’s loans on the Riverside IV building that houses Indeed, has just opened.
