Irish-founded Profitero opens new office in Shanghai

The online insights and ecommerce intelligence firm tracks more than 450m products

Irish-founded ecommerce analytics firm Profitero is to open an office in China as it looks to increase its presence in Asia-Pacific.

The company, which was founded by Vol Pigrukh, Dmitry Vysotski, and Kanstantsin Chernysh in 2010, has its headquarters in Dún Laoghaire, south Dublin.

It is an online insights and ecommerce intelligence business for retailers and brands that tracks more than 450 million products across 5,000 online stores in more than 50 markets.

Clients of the company include Barilla, General Mills, L'Oréal, Beiersdorf, Sam's Club, Morrisons, Waitrose and Ocado.

Profitero, which closed an $8 million (€5.9 million) funding round with American venture capital firm Polaris Partners, is opening the Shanghai operation as it looks to tap into the Chinese ecommerce market. Online sales in China are expected to top $800 billion this year and will account for more than half the entire global online retail market by the end of 2019.

The company’s move into China follows expansion into Japan earlier this year.

Profitero has appointed Angela Lui as director of strategy and insight for China. She brings nearly 20 years of research experience from previous positions at Nielsen, WPP, NPD Group and Huawei.
