‘Hundreds’ of jobs for Limerick in new operations centre

Ticket exchange operator Viagogo is to open a purpose built international operations centre in Limerick, choosing the city for its "reputation as a place of excellence and local talent".

Viagogo, which has customers in about 100 countries, helps people to buy and sell tickets to live sports, entertainment and theatre events all over the world. The new operations centre, which is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland, will open later this year, but the company has already recruited "in the tens", with employee numbers expected "to reach the hundreds in due course".

The operations centre is recruiting for a wide variety of technical and customer service roles for people with a range of skills and languages. Besides English, the centre is also hiring German, French, Italian, and Spanish speakers.

Edward Parkinson, operations manager for the Viagogo group, said that Limerick was chosen “ for its reputation as a place of excellence and local talent”.

In other job news Zendesk, a provider of cloud-based customer services software, is to create up to 100 jobs at a new office in Dublin's Grand Parade, while Arvato Financial Solutions, part of global BPO provider arvato, is to create 50 jobs at its shared service centre in Blanchardstown Corporate Park, following a major contract win. It has been selected by Eircom to provide all of its business to consumer collections and back office support facilities. As part of the contract, the company has been tasked with re-engineering all of the telecoms provider's credit management processes.

Shannon Airport has also welcomed the announcement that one of the world’s leading operators in the aircraft parts industry, Aero-Zone, is to launch its European headquarters in the Shannon free zone.

Aero-Zone is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chandler, Arizona based Aero-Zone, which has been providing new and aftermarket parts for commercial, corporate and general-aviation aircraft since 1994.

Welcoming the announcement, Shannon Airport Authority chairman Rose Hynes said: “Aero-Zone is part of a dynamic and growing cluster of over 40 aviation companies that employs 1,600 people here at Shannon. Its decision to locate its European headquarters here to service its Europe and Middle-East customer base is another vote of confidence for the continued development of our International Aviation Services Centre (IASC) at Shannon”.
