Facebook timeline: the social network’s major milestones

Feb 4, 2004: Facebook is founded by Mark Zuckerberg and co-founders Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Eduardo Saverin.

September 2004: Facebook’s “wall” launches, allowing people to post messages to friends on the site.

December 2004: More than one million people are now using the site.

April 2006: Facebook’s first mobile interface launches.

September 2006: Facebook opens registration to everyone.

December 2007: Facebook reaches 58 million users

December 2008: Facebook opens its Dublin 0ffice.

February 2009: The now ubiquitous “Like” button is introduced.

December 2010: Facebook now has 608 million users.

September 2011: The now-familiar Timeline feature is introduced

May 2012: Facebook goes public, holding its IPO.

October 2012: The site reaches the one billion user milestone.
