Ecomo bottle tests water quality and purifies it on the go

A water bottle may not scream “decadent Christmas gift” but it certainly is useful.

Especially when the water bottle in question not only holds your drink – the most boring element of the whole thing – but also tests the water for you and then sends all the data to your smartphone.

On the whole, I’m not a huge fan of the idea that your water bottle is spying on you. I mean, do we really need technology to tell us that we’re not drinking enough water?

Nature handled that with a thing called thirst. But ignoring that element aside, the Ecomo bottle seems like it could actually be of some use.

You fill it from whatever water source that’s nearest – water fountain, stream, muddy puddle – shake it, and the bottle will tell you if the water is good enough quality to drink.

If it’s not, twist the bottle to kick in the filter, which removes most contaminants such as bacteria, heavy metals and pesticides.

There’s also “hydration tracker” – a wearable band – that will tell you if you need to drink more water and track your history – if you can be bothered. And at $229, it could probably be considered a little decadent.
