Coders to converge on Slane for global conference

More than 200 coding mentors and kid coders are expected to gather in Slane Castle at the weekend for the second annual CoderDojo conference.

Getting girls into code
The event, which will see panel discussions and workshops on topics including education, online learning environments and setting up coding clubs, has a focus on encouraging girls into technology and science. Companies attending the conference include Google, Dell, Arduino and GitHub, with lots of networking opportunities for the mentors, which the event is mainly geared towards, according to CoderDojo founder James Whelton.

“The movement grew very quickly and we now have CoderDojos all over the country. The next step is to encourage collaboration between the various coding clubs, which we hope this event will do.”

Speakers include Disney vice-president Una Fox, Tweak. com founder Jerry Kennelly and Kimberly Bryant, founder of Black Girls Code.

The event takes place at Slane Castle this Friday and Saturday.
