EventMAP, a Belfast spin out that has developed new technology to optimise timetabling and resource management within universities, is to create 10 jobs after securing £85,000 (€118,536) of financial support from Invest NI.

Earlier this month the Queen's University (QUB) spin out, which was founded in 2002, won its largest sales contract todate, worth a six figures sum, to supply its timetabling software to Sultan Qaboos University.

The business was established by Dr Barry McCollum and Dr Paul McMullan from QUB’s department of computer science, in association with a specialist mathematical research group from the University of Nottingham.

Dr Barry McCollum said today its latest expansion reflected an exciting time for the company. “Opportunities are opening up for us not only in the education sector but also within many areas of the public sector and in large-scale manufacturing - in fact, we see possibilities for our technology anywhere where very complex organisations can be made more efficient.

He said the company intends to continue to develop new technology, including advanced cloud-based solutions.

According to George McKinney, Invest NI’s director of technology & services, the Belfast company’s technology has been adopted by four of the UK’s Russell Group universities and a further five of the top 100 universities in the world.
