Amazon’s Echo Show gets an upgrade

Tech tools: Bigger screen, better speakers and a smarthome hub make a difference

£220

Amazon has improved its Echo Show, with a bigger screen, better speakers and a smarthome hub that lets you control your automated devices around the house. Set to go on sale in October, the new version of Amazon's smart speaker has a 10 inch HD screen and a Zigbee smart hub, all controlled by voice commands. It makes it that bit easier to follow recipes step by step in the kitchen or add compatible devices by telling Alexa to find your new light bulbs, plugs and switches. The question is, why would you need the more expensive Echo Show over the Spot? Well the screen is a lot bigger, so it's handy for Skype calling, or for viewing who is outside your front door, if you have a Ring doorbell. If you do neither of those things though, the regular Echo Plus might be a better choice.
