Airbnb to double its Dublin workforce to 200 this year

Online accommodation rental service Airbnb has announced plans to double its workforce in Dublin to 200 by the end of this year.

The company, which opened its European headquarters in Ringsend in Dublin earlier this year, is now recruiting for positions in customer experience and hospitality, it announced today.

Welcoming the news, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said the Government had been seeking to encourage more "born on the internet" companies to locate in Ireland as part of its Action Plan for Jobs.

“Today’s announcement that Airbnb, a massive internet name and a fast-growing global company, is expanding its operations in Dublin and creating 100 jobs is great news,” he said.

Speaking in Dublin this morning, Airbnb co-founder and chief executive Brian Chesky said the company has been very happy with its operations in Dublin so far.

“We came to Dublin because it has hospitality in its DNA and I’ve been so inspired by the culture we’ve already created in our office here.”

Taoiseach Enda Kenny said : “Young Irish people will be inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit behind the Airbnb story and the potential that can be realised through combining a great idea with ambition and hard work.”

Founded in California in 2008, Airbnb is a community website connecting people with spare rooms or apartments with others looking for a place to stay.
