Canon PowerShot S95 €479

The PowerShot S95 is an advanced compact digital camera that gives you manual control but the convenience of a more portable camera. It has adopted high-definition movie capabilities and has brought in a host of technology to ensure great images in almost all conditions.

It replaces the PowerShot S90, bringing in a brighter lens, and Canon’s HS System for better performance in low light. The built-in lens is a wide-angle 28mm with 3.8x optical zoom – better than the standard compact camera.

LightCap 300 $29.95

Sometimes the best gadgets are also the most basic. The LightCap 300 is a multi-tasking device that is also quite useful. Need an LED lamp? It has one built in. How about a water bottle or even a waterproof container? It covers both.

The lantern/water bottle hybrid is strong, light and easy to use. It offers solar- powered charging, with a sealed internal NiMH battery that lasts about 15 per cent longer than its predecessor – or so the company claims, at least.

The lamp is bright, with four LEDs built in. Take it camping and use the built- in swivel retaining ring’s slots to hang the cap in your tent or on a tree. The switch to operate the lantern has also been improved. Furthermore, it is supposed to be unbreakable.

Apple TV €119

Apple TV hasn’t really been top of the list of Apple success stories, but the tech company isn’t giving up. Unveiled last week, the all-new Apple TV is slimmed down in size and price and looks a lot more attractive. The device is about a quarter of the size of its predecessor, and the power brick has been eliminated. The power supply is now internal.

Part of the deal with shrinking it is the loss of the internal storage. Built-in Wi-Fi access means you can stream all your media – movies, music and photos – directly from your computer to the device. It also has a HDMI port so you can hook it up to your high definition TV.
