Sony Cybershot TX5 (€379)

Digital cameras are great, but they have been known to break every now and again, particularly if you fall into the clumsier category of camera user. But rugged technology isn’t known for being slimline either. The Sony Cybershot TX5 sits perfectly between the two: it’ll take a bit of rough handling, some splashes and even extreme temperatures, and still give you great photos in a relatively thin camera.

At 17.7mm thick, the TX5 is one of the thinnest waterproof cameras on the market.

Not only is it dustproof and capable of handling temperatures as low as -10 degrees, it will also give you great images, with a 10.2 megapixel sensor, a 4x optical zoom and a 25mm wide angle lens.

Movie clips can be shot in 720p high definition, and the 3-inch LCD screen is perfect for quick reviews of photo and video. It also comes in five colours – what more could you want?

Realview V-screen (€39.99)

If you are eagerly anticipating the launch of 3D TVs and gaming in Ireland, a product by an Irish firm could keep you going until it happens.

Owners of Sony’s PlayStation Portable console can use the V-Screen to enhance games and videos. Based on technology that was originally used in the medical field, the V-Screen enhances perceived depth of a 2D screen, so you get more out of your games without having to hand over large amounts of cash.

The flip-up screen, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, is lightweight, so it can be easily transported, and fits the PSP 1000, 2000 and 3000 series.

Best of all, it will work with all the PSP games you already have. It also provides you with a decent case to keep your PSP in pristine condition.

Powermat Travel Charger (£79)

The mess of wires and multiple chargers could soon be a thing of the past. Powermat is a charging mat that can replenish power for up to three devices at once from a single plug. It works with everything from an iPhone to a Nintendo DS.

Once you have the mat, you need to buy receivers for your chosen devices, usually in the form of a battery door or case. These fit on to your phone or handheld console. Then, all you need to do is place the device on the Powermat.

You can add extras to it, such as the Powercube, which is a small square that sits on the Powermat and charges your device of choice through a number of interchangeable tips.

The most popular are included – Sony Ericsson, Nokia, mini USB and Nintendo DS, among others.

Additionally, the Travel Charger mat folds up into a handy square that you can slip easily into your luggage.
