Stocks skidded yesterday to lows unseen since mid-April as the market extended to a second consecutive day a jarring revaluation of shares in light of chronically weak corporate profits and revenues.

For the S&P 500, it was the lowest close since April 11th, and the lowest finish for the Nasdaq since April 17th. Year-to-date, the Dow is down 5.1 per cent, the Nasdaq is off 22.1 per cent, and the S&P 500 is 11.3 per cent lower.
