An article published in the edition of June 11th, 2002, concerning the forthcoming publication of the report of the Ansbacher Inspectors, described how the report will "... name depositors, many of whom used the bank [i.e. Ansbacher Cayman] for tax evasion purposes".

The article referred to Sir Anthony O'Reilly as someone "... we should be looking out for ..." in the Inspector's Report.

The Irish Times accepts that it was wrong to have done so and accepts Sir Anthony's assurance that he never had an Ansbacher deposit account, directly or indirectly, at any stage whatsoever.

The Irish Times apologises for any inference to the contrary.
