SIPTU is expected to commence strike action at an Ennis electronics firm today in a dispute that threatens the future of 68 jobs at the plant and a further 195 in a planned expansion.

SIPTU - which represents 40 workers at the plant - served seven days strike notice on Karavale Electronics Ltd last Wednesday following company management's refusal to recognise union representation at the plant which manufactures electronic circuit boards.

Management has already told the Labour Relations Commission that it will cease operations at the Ennis plant if staff pursue the issue of recognition.
