Servecast.com, an Irish-owned Internet broadcasting company, is investing $40 million (€46 million) to develop a pan-European network to deliver streaming media content to businesses.
The company is building a series of servers throughout Europe and aims to have 16 points of presence by March 2001. These will be linked to a high speed backbone network between London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Stockholm.
The network is being built in partnership with Compaq and Cisco.
The company is targeting customers who want to use online training products, product demonstrations, corporate communications, investor relations and video conferencing.
Mr Kevin Quinn, chief executive of Servecast, said the network should be completed by the end of the first quarter 2001 and this would be extended to include 40-50 locations by 2003-4. The network investment would be bankrolled from a $40 million fundraising which the firm was close to finalising.
