The Margin noticed there were seven applications for the Dublin radio licence for the 15-34 age group - the young swingers - and just two applications for the licence for the 35-plus brigade. But why is there no licence being offered to serve the interests of the capital's senior citizens.

In contrast in Britain, Saga, whose specialist holidays for the wrinklies has got the company all sorts of nicknames - including "Club 55-70" and "Sex and Games for the Aged" - is investing £10 million sterling (€15.3 million) in a radio station for the sector.

Lots of chat, lots of Cliff Richard and Tom O'Connor - plus advice on everything for the aged from pensions to holidays and health matters - is the Saga blueprint for its radio station.

And believe it or not, our very own Boyzone are special favourites of the wrinklies. Saga's director of radio, Ron Coles, told the FT this week a survey had shown that Ronan and the rest of the lads are among the aged ravers' favourites! What about The Corrs, we ask? Surely the sultry Andrea must be the favourite of the grandad grouping.
