HACKERS AND developers inspired by the scene in the Social Network where Mark Zuckerberg recruits Facebook interns by means of a frenzied coding and drinking session may want to check out the company’s World HACK roadshow, which kicks off on Thursday.
World HACK “gives you a chance to collaborate with your peers and speak one-on-one with Facebook engineers”, the company said when announcing the event. “Then, put your skills to work and spend the day hacking with us.”
Facebookers will be on hand to walk coders through the development of new social apps.
The two-month HACK tour starts in Austin, Texas, but will make several European stops next month, including in Barcelona and Berlin. In each city it visits, Facebook will run an eight-hour competition where coders will get to show their skills. The top team from each continent will win a trip to the social network’s campus in San Francisco, where they’ll meet the Facebook team.
Demand is always high for these hackathons so developers interested in becoming the next Zuckerberg should sign up in advance for their chosen date on fbworldhack.com.
