Tesco Ireland is to create 200 jobs over the coming year with the announcement that it will open seven new stores and six mobile phone shops.
The UK retail giant, which employs about 15,000 people in Ireland, is set to open five new Express convenience stores, creating 80 new jobs before Christmas as part of its €70 million capital investment programme for 2013.
The shops that are set to open are as follows:
· Glasnevin Avenue (Finglas) Express: opens September 17th
· St Finbarr’s Express(Douglas Road, Cork): opens September 18th
· College Green Express (Dublin): opens October 8th
· Dorset Street Express (Dublin): opens November 1st
· Leonard’s Corner Express (Dublin): opens November 3rd
The group will also open new Tesco Mobile phone shops in Tesco stores in Maynooth, Tallaght, Drogheda, Clearwater (Dublin), Wilton (Cork) and Clarehall (Dublin), with the creation of 14 jobs.
Tesco is also recruiting 18 third level graduates, as part of the company’s graduate jobs and training schemes. These graduates will be based in stores around the country and at Tesco’s head office in Dun Laoghaire and will involve training internationally as well as Ireland.
A further 120 new jobs will come on line with the opening of new stores in Dundalk and Dun Laoghaire next year. Construction work on these stores is under way.
In the first quarter of the year, Tesco saw its Irish sales slip by 3 per cent on a like-for-like basis, on the back of increased austerity measures.
