Rise in online orders lifts Domino’s Pizza profit

Domino’s Pizza has reported a 10.1 per cent rise in Irish sales in the first half of the year.

Online sales account for more than 55 per cent of sales in Ireland and are up by 28 per cent on the same period last year, the company said.

In a trading update the pizza delivery group said it plans to open another store in Ireland towards the end of the year, bringing the number of outlets in Ireland to 48.

Pretax profit at the UK-based firm rose 9 per cent overall, with the trend to increased online orders also evident in the UK market.

Online orders in Britain increased 11.5 per cent to make up 75 per cent of all deliveries in the period, the company said on Tuesday.

Sales at UK stores open for more than a year rose 2.4 per cent in the period, Domino’s said.

Domino’s Pizza – a franchise of US company Domino’s Pizza Incorporated – said underlying pretax profit for 26 weeks to June 25th rose to £44.6 million (€49.19 million) from £40.9 million a year earlier.

The group, which has most of its 1,130 stores in the UK but also operates in Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Iceland, Norway and Sweden said international sales rose to £23.8 million.

Total sales rose 10.5 per cent to £546.5 million in the first half of the year.

Domino's said in November it would increase the number of stores in Britain to 1,600 after seeing a strong performance from new outlets. – Reuters
