One More Thing: Trump’s view provokes outrage

Billionaire Donald Trump has, not for the first time, provoked controversy with his outspoken remarks.

During an interview with this newspaper on Tuesday, following his €15 million acquisition of the Doonbeg golf resort in Co Clare, the flamboyant dealmaker made a colourful comment about his battle against wind farms.

"Wind farms are a disaster for Scotland, like Pan AM 103 [the 1988 bombing of a US-bound flight]. They make people sick with the continuous noise," he told the Irish Times ' Kate Holmquist.

The British edition of the Sun newspaper hit the property tycoon with the headline the following day: "Bomb Rant Trump Fury."

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine, the paper quoted as saying: “These comments are unbelievably crass and show a complete lack of respect to families affected by the bombing – in the US, Scotland and across the world.”

A spokesperson for Trump has insisted he was misquoted. But the Irish Sun took a different view with the headline "Top Trump Don".

Its story revealed that Doonbeg Gaelic club believed he had kept their team alive by ensuring their players, who work on the golf resort, stay in the area. A case perhaps of Sun set, Sun Rise for the property tycoon.
