Life Style Sports to lease new €20m carbon neutral distribution centre

Sports retailer Life Style Sports is to occupy a new €20 million distribution centre being developed by property group Iput at the Aerodrome Business Park, west Dublin.

The centre, which is situated on a 5.7 acre site near the N7, will be the first fully carbon neutral distribution facility of its kind in Ireland.

It features a renewable energy elements, including natural and LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, electric car charging and energy usage monitors for Life Style Sports, which employs over 800 staff.

The company currently operates 44 retail units across Ireland.

It said it would retain the same number of full-time staff after the distribution centre opening, using advanced technology, including 100 robots to operate the facility.

"Obviously the Covid-19 pandemic has been hugely challenging for all retailers but this new distribution centre is the dawn of a new era for the brand, and we're hugely excited for the sustainability and operational capabilities it will give us to grow for both our in-store and e-commerce offering," Mark Stafford, Life Style Sports chief executive said.

Michael Clarke, Iput's head of investment, said: "As the largest owner of logistics space in Dublin, our ambition is to develop exceptional buildings that set new standards in design and sustainability in order to attract best in class occupiers."

“The facility at Aerodrome Business Park is a carbon neutral and environmentally sustainable development which sets a new standard for logistics facilities in Ireland,” he said.
