Groupon looks to hire experienced software engineers

Graduates also in demand as daily deals site steps up expansion plans

Groupon, the US daily deals site which also operates in Ireland, is recruiting for its newly established software development centre in Dublin.

Based in the city centre, Groupon is looking for experienced software engineers, computer programmers, data scientists and computational marketers, as well as for new college graduates in related disciplines.

Groupon delivers daily deals and real-time digital coupons for consumers and businesses. The company’s new hires will cross a range of functions, including computational marketing - analysing data to personalise consumer offers, and help businesses to identity and retain customers.

Rich Williams, chief marketing officer with Groupon, said that the ecommerce platform was looking for “the best and brightest technology and marketing minds to help us to continue to scale”.

Big data analytics is part of its growth model and it wants to hear from candidates with competencies across a range of areas, including maths, statistics computing, science and sociology.

Welcoming the announcement, Barry O’Leary, chief executive of IDA Ireland said that Groupon “will significantly add to our cluster of cutting-edge online companies at the forefront of innovation in the online sector”.

Groupon already employs about a dozen people in Dublin 7, and has plans to move to new offices in Dublin’s city centre as part of its expansion.

Globally, Groupon has struggled to match its early growth, with declining consumer interest leading to a decrease in revenues and its chief executive was ousted in a public firing earlier this year. However, first quarter results for this year show signs of recovery.
